DEFINING AND IMPLEMENTING DATA GOVERNANCE
Mobius Consulting assisted a food and beverages company with defining and implementing data governance based on a custom Mobius Data Governance Framework. The organisation’s data and technical requirements had changed and influenced a decision to move various datasets to a cloud computing service provider. The move to the Cloud made it imperative to put in place governance and controls to ensure that data is safeguarded and handled appropriately.
The objective of the project was to develop a custom Data Governance Framework, and to assess On-premise cloud-based data risks as well as the current state of data governance against the framework. Our Information Security team also advised and assisted in developing the framework and updating artefacts to ensure alignment to information security, privacy and governance best practices, while taking into account their cloud strategy.
Approach to achieving objectives:
- We defined and assessed the organisation’s data risks;
- We reviewed and assessed the current state of data governance of the organisation;
- We defined a Data Governance Framework and related policies;
- We assisted the organisation with creating and updating existing data governance artefacts required for On-premise and Cloud data;
As a result of the project Data Governance artefacts and controls were implemented across strategic, tactical and operational governance layers. This enabled the organisation to share data more effectively and securely within the organisation, with third parties and cloud service providers.
